Link Management Tips

We are continually working on this section and at present have published an article on link building contributed by our founder Simon Collingridge in the High Rankings Forum.

My starting point was to first create a site directory for me to place links to other peoples sites.

Then search Google for the keywords I want to be top of the list for, to get the top ranking sites, find out which websites link to them (Google search link:www.thedomain.com gets this for you), then start contacting each of these to get links, often they had a specific process to follow, but almost always they wanted to see a link to them first which is where your own site directory comes in.

Finding one-way links is a very valuable exercise too (i.e. they link to you, but you don't need to link back to them). Start with DMOZ (www.dmoz.org) and directories listed here http://www.highrankings.com/forum/index.ph...?showtopic=1102, but also search for niche directories to submit your site to. One way to find these is:
  • Search Google for your main generic keyword (e.g. fishing)
  • Use Googles "Search within results" option for the term "directory"
This will give you a great list of related websites that are likely to have a directory your can submit to, some of which will be proper directories than don't require a backlink.

Here's some tips for link building I find work
  • Play this as a long game, don't think you'll sort it in a week or even a month.
  • Be picky about the sites you get links from - it'll pay off in the long term (choose sites with relevant content and with PR3 or more).
  • Keep track of the sites you've asked, and when they place a link back to you, it'll help you see progression and keep you motivated! whip.gif
  • In the first month or two, if you can, put aside 1 hour a day to find links
  • Create a page in your own directory to make it easy for people to request links from you, so in time your can start getting people linking to you and asking you to link to them.
As you're new to SEO, I'd also make some off-topic suggestions and recommend you spend sometime reading the postings in the SEO Optimisation and Copy Writing forums (http://www.highrankings.com/forum/index.php?showforum=15 and http://www.highrankings.com/forum/index.ph...p?showforum=11) as this will help you build and tweak your copy.

Also subscribe to Jills newsletter from her home page on http://www.highrankings.com/ as it's full of great stuff to help you get up to speed.

Avoiding Link Farms
As Google introduced the idea of link popularity, so website owners came up with the idea of link farms - get any website to link to you.
Google and other search engines do not support link farms
this introduces the danger of having your website banned from the search engines if it is part of a link farm.

To help you decide...
NETsposure link management program will increase your link popularity and your ranking while avoiding any link farms.
we will only identify suitable websites that add value to you and your website visitors.
